Compressed Air Challenge

The Compressed Air Challenge is a voluntary collaboration of industrial users; manufacturers, distributors and their associations; consultants; state research and development agencies; energy efficiency organizations; and utilities. This group has one purpose in mind – helping you enjoy the benefits of improved performance of your compressed air system.

Scales Industrial Technologies staff includes five instructors for the Compressed Air Challenge’s one-day Fundamentals of Compressed Air Systems workshop and three instructors for the two-day Advanced Management workshop. Scales Industrial Technologies also participated in the development of the text and support material for these presentations. In addition, Bill Scales is the co-author of Best Practices for Compressed Air Systems and is a member of the Product Development Committee and the Technical Core Group that defines and writes the training curriculum. Scales Industrial Technologies is also a Department of Energy Allied Partner.

Compressed Air Challenge

Compressed air is not typically viewed as a cost of production—but it is anything but “free”. The generation of compressed air requires a huge amount of energy—and a piecemeal approach to building a compressed air system serves to worsen the problem through leaks, mismatched supply/demand and inappropriate uses. The result is unreliability, energy waste, reduced productivity and higher operating costs.

Paying attention to your compressed air system can lead to a number of benefits. Compressed air is a utility that is generated in-house. That means that you have more control over it than any other utility. By learning more about efficient use of compressed air systems, you can improve efficiency, reduce costs, and increase productivity and reliability. This can lead to improved competitiveness, less downtime, and
greater return on investment.

The mission of the Compressed Air Challenge (CAC) is to develop and provide resources that educate industry on the opportunities to increase net profits through compressed air system optimization.

The CAC has developed a series of training sessions to help you learn more about the fundamentals of compressed air systems. A sourcebook and fact sheets are also available.
